The approval of the sale of Oi’s mobile network, in a close vote by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade), marked the end of the “critical chapter” in the history of telecom, said the company’s president, Rodrigo Abreu, in an interview with Estadão/Broadcast. According to him, now begins the phase of “building Nova Oi”.
Upon exiting the mobile telephony and internet market, Nova Oi’s main business will be the offer of optical fiber by V.tal, which has BTG as a partner. Oi has the largest fiber network in Brazil and an investment plan for expansion. The network will serve both for offering broadband to Oi’s consumers and to other regional operators.
At the same time, Nova Oi will have to pay off the gigantic debts. Of the R$16.5 billion to be received from the sale of Oi Móvel, tele will allocate R$12 billion to creditors. The company intends to end its judicial recovery, which began in 2016, by the end of May.
