Russia has made its demands clear to carry out a ceasefire in the invasion that has been carried out in Ukraine since last February 24. It has done just before starting negotiations with Ukraine that are taking place in the area known as Belovezhskaya Pushcha, on the border between Poland and Belarus
The country presided over by Vladimir Putin assures that there will be an “immediate” ceasefire if Ukraine gives up Crimea and recognize the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk.
The spokesman for the Kremlin, Dimitri Peskov, has confirmed to the Reuters agency that what they are demanding from Ukraine is that they recognize the annexation of Crimea to Russia (carried out in 2014 after an illegal referendum that the international community does not recognize) and the independence of the secessionist republics of Donbasthat is, Lugansk and Donetsk.
Peskov has stated that “We are not taking Lugansk and Donetsk from Ukraine. Donetsk and Lugansk do not want to be part of Ukraine”who also specified that “this does not mean that they should be destroyed”.
Russia also calls for a new constitution in Ukraine
However, these are not the only requests from Russia, which also demands a new constitution in Ukraine that ensures the neutrality of the countryor what is the same, that it cannot form part of NATO or the European Union.
In this sense, the Kremlin spokesman has ruled that “Ukraine is an independent state that will live as it wishes, but under conditions of neutrality”.
However, according to Peskov himself, the first step for Moscow is the end of armed resistance by Ukraine. “We are concluding the demilitarization of Ukraine,” said the Kremlin spokesman, who in turn has asked Ukraine to put an end to its military actions: “We are going to achieve it, but if they stop their military action now, no one is going to keep shooting”.
