Russia announced on Sunday that its forces had achieved new field progress on the battle front in southern Ukraine.
Moscow said it took control of a new village as part of its continued advance on the front facing Ukrainian forces suffering from a shortage of equipment, according to Ukrainian officials.
The Russian Defense Ministry said, in its daily report, that “units of the East Forces Group” took control of “the village of Zagirny in the Zaporizhya region, and occupied more suitable positions.”
The Russian army has been controlling Ukrainian territory for months, especially in the east of the country, without achieving an actual breakthrough.
Before “Zaghirny”, Moscow announced this week that it had taken control of three villages in eastern, southern and southeastern Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced last week that his country’s forces have controlled about 880 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory since the beginning of the year, and about fifty towns.
On May 10, Russian forces began an attack in the Kharkiv region (northeast), and took control of several towns.
