The legislation allows the Russian authorities to monitor and collect more information about foreigners in the country.
In Russia a new law came into force on Wednesday, requiring foreigners residing in Russia to undergo a health check every three months
Health check-ups examine, among other things, whether an alien has HIV, smallpox, tuberculosis, leprosy, Korona or whether he or she has used drugs. In addition, fingerprints and biometric data must be provided to the authorities.
Diplomats, Belarusian citizens and family members of foreigners under the age of 6 have been exempted from checks.
The legislation now in force will allow the Russian authorities to monitor and collect more accurate information on foreigners in the country.
The new law has raised strong opposition in a number of international business interest groups. In addition, the law makes it difficult for many migrant workers from the Central Asian republics to stay in Russia.
