According to Dave Robson, Williams’ technical manager, Nicholas Latifi will do well not to think too much about what to do in the 2022 Formula 1 season.
The Canadian has just returned from an encouraging 2021 season, where he scored his first points in F1 thanks to the Top 10 signed in the Hungarian and Belgian Grand Prix.
However, his vintage also had some frustrating moments when he failed to capitalize on the good pace, overshadowed by teammate George Russell.
Robson acknowledged that Latifi has not been constant, but he has no doubt that he has everything to make progress, if he will rely on his natural talent and not try to analyze too much what is going on.

“I think there have been a bit more ups and downs this year than we thought – explained Robson – Williams was too fluctuating between qualifying and race pace.”
“Nicholas really has a lot of talent to drive a car well and understand where the problems are. Obviously next year we start from scratch because the cars are completely different.”
“His teammate is also new, so I think there is an opportunity for him next year to do very well, really.”
“He has everything he needs, maybe he needs to trust his instincts a little more without always thinking too much, which is potentially part of the problem with his mixed results.”
“He has a tendency to think a lot, he is almost a bit too intelligent to run solely based on his instincts. But it is essential that he has it, yes.”
According to Robson, what could help Latifi in his approach is to have a better car on his hands, so that he doesn’t have to overdo it to find performance.
“Having a faster car means being able to relax a bit, especially in the early part of Qualifying.”
“That way he can start to really trust his instincts, drive as he knows how and most riders do. He can certainly do a good job.”
