‘Rigo’, the soap opera that mixes reality and fiction when it comes to telling the life of Colombian cyclist Rigoberto Urán, never stops generating reactions every time a new episode airs. Especially in relation to the protagonist’s enemies.
Although Evaristo Rendón, the lender who makes Rigo’s life impossible for the Urán family, and Carmelo, his son, are not real characters, They are among those who have attracted the most attention for their occurrences. The first is played by Julián Arango and the second, by Emanuel Restrepo.
In the plot, Evaristo discovers, after having installed a camera in his office, that his son had stolen money from him, taking it from his desk drawer. And for that reason, he decided to apply a severe punishment to him.
Evaristo went to an Army battalion, commanded by a colonel who is his cousin, and made Carmelo join their ranks to try to correct his behavior.
In the novel, Carmelo is a boy who has recently graduated from school, who has not been useful for any activity, and who even, when his father formed a cycling team to compete with Rigo’s, Team Rendón, wanted to try his luck with the bicycle: It was a total fiasco.
However, when the soldiers came to look for him to take him to the barracks, Carmelo ran away like he had never done before in his life. The effort was in vain. He was hit and then put on a truck to serve the punishment.
The scene generated many reactions on social networks, in which not only did the actors’ work stand out, but many, in a mocking tone, wanted to show that Carmelo’s thing is athletics.
Restrepo, an actor born in Medellín, has stood out in several national productions. In addition to the role of Carmelo in Rigo, he was the protagonist of The First Time, a Netflix series that was another of the hits of 2023 and of which the second season will soon be broadcast.
Emmanuel Restrepo, in the role of Camilo, in the series The First Time.
