All free-to-play games must have some sort of minimal competitive element to sustain themselves. Yes, we know that micro transactions and battle passes help a lot, but a community that plays does more and it seems that Roller Champions can attract many players.
This proposal from Ubisoft went a long way, I even thought they abandoned or delayed it, but, as is usually done with this kind of game, they just drop it and let the fans get balls to start exploiting the game.
Now, these kinds of games are difficult to review because they are constantly evolving. What happens one season, maybe they change it to the next. In one of those they adjust the physics or add a special move.
Therefore, we will analyze Roller Champions for its concept, execution and how everything it offers could survive in the coming months, because the important thing in a proposal like this always has to do with the community of players.
Wrestling-rhythm battles, rollerblades, basketball and a bit of American football
Roller Champions take a bit of everything from various sports. You have the fight on skates that is surely only practiced in some places in the United States; then comes basketball because the ball is very similar to that of this discipline. You can send passes like in American football and knock down the rivals.
The rules are simple, you have a team made up of three players who must go around the track carrying the ball and then pass it through a hoop. Opponents can now steal the ball from you, tackle you and break the course of going around the court. As you can imagine, communication is key.

How do you win? The team that scores 5 points or finishes with the most at the end of the regular time that is 7 minutes, will be the one who takes the victory. An additional detail is that, if the team manages to go around the track three times without losing the ball, its score can be worth 5 points.
The joke, to dominate the game, is to learn to skate, pick up speed, know how to pass the ball and stop rivals. Communication is key and, at least at the moment, it is not that one player is dedicated to hitting or chasing, there must be a rotation between all the members of the team.
Analysis of the competitive concept of Roller Champions
The game itself can be either very close or a real kick in the ass for a team that has no idea what they’re doing. If the teams bring a similar level, where they are just learning to play and understand what it is about, the game can go into overtime.
When there are already at least two players who understand the mechanics like passing the ball well, throwing to other teammates and others, the beatings will not be long in coming. That is where it is very noticeable that teams are going to be assembled for the competitions to come.

On the other hand, what Roller Champions does very well is that all the time it all boils down to skill. There is no single cosmetic that makes you stronger or faster. Even progression doesn’t drop skills and that’s key to making sense of competitive free-to-play.
Let’s say that Ubisoft took the right path for those interested to stay and compete either to be at the top of the standings or, failing that, to bring the experience to a tournament. I do see the divisions or the badges between the players begin.
How does the progression work?
Right off the bat we have the Roller Pass which is unlocked as you get fans. You get both the free items as you progress and the premium items if you pay for this pass.
The initial season is 30 levels and it is seen that it will last a period of 30 days. We don’t know what will happen after that. There are bonuses for playing, deals on items for sale, and a bit of everything. The pass is supposed to work like in Fortnite, if you finish it, you get enough wheels to pay for it again.

These kinds of details make it worth playing over and over again because leveling up doesn’t feel like such a chore either. Wow, if you win you go up a lot, if you lose, then you go slower. The joke is that your skill is rewarded.
It is worth noting that the system is fair, it is not advantageous and those who try harder and seek victory will receive their prize. Finishing a game after losing may not be a big deal, but the effort will pay off in some way.

How will he survive?
Right now there aren’t that many tracks, but the ones that are there are striking and very Latin. Let’s just say that Ubisoft shows its love for our region with Roller Champions. But what about the rest? How are the players represented?
Well, the editing and customization are more than clear, you can do almost what you like, put the complexion you want and others. There are masks, wheels for the skates, gloves and others. I think several things will come, but it all depends on the response of the players.

Finally, the community will be in charge of sustaining and keeping the game alive. Ubisoft will be able to put in Rainbow Six or Assassin’s Creed suits, but the players have to be there for the content to flow, the business to be maintained and the competitions to be organized.
That is the formula of a free-to-play, even the fairest one that is usually the most complicated, because by now you know that there are free gatchas that become millionaires just by existing and they are really unfair to the players.
Is it worth playing Roller Champions?
Well, we reached the point where I should recommend or not a free to play. Many believe that the idea is very simple and boils down to a resounding NO, but there are others who like to enjoy the competition and a different proposal from the others, which may not have to do with a shooting battle royale.
Roller Champions it is a competitive proposition with a solid foundation. Its rules and game mechanics are very clear and enjoyable. Playing with strangers will be difficult, but in a team with friends and a lot of communication something very exciting. Its progression system is fair and it is seen that it can have a community that supports it.
The game will be interesting for many, as long as they have someone to play with. Going with strangers around is complicated because the lack of communication can lead to frustration. That’s how team games are and if you have someone to join them, go ahead, you don’t lose anything and you can have a great time.
