What would the 1988 Subaru Impreza 22B have been like had it been launched in the present day? Prodrive has not simply asked itself this question, but has also tried to give itself an answer, and thus is preparing to make its debut on the market. P25: the UK-based company will unveil all the details related to this restomod at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but in the meantime it has released the first official images of the model. What is sure to change from that iconic car is the number of units that will go into production: of the Impreza 22B 424 were built, of the P25 only 25 will be assembled.
Each Prodrive P25 will be based on an original two-door WRX body, and therefore not an original 22B, and will see the addition of carbon panels designed with the help of Peter Stevens, who oversaw the 22B. original. The use of composite materials for the construction of the hood, trunk, roof, front and rear fenders, mirrors, spoilers and bumpers will also help to reduce the curb weight to just 1,200 kg, about 45 km shorter than the original 22B. Optional lightweight carbon racing seats complete the overview. From a mechanical point of view, the presence of limited slip differentials on both ends stands out, an active center differential, adjustable Bilstein shock absorbers and AP Racing brakeswith the latter featuring 380mm front and 350mm rear discs.
As for the engine offer, the engine that equips the new Prodrive P25 is based on the latest Subaru 2.5, but has been completely redesigned with new lines, pistons, connecting rods and valves to guarantee a total power of 400 hp and a maximum torque of 600 Nm, a nice increase in performance when you consider that the original Impreza B22 was capable of reaching 267 hp at most: the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h, in this case, is consumable in just 3.5 seconds. In combination a six-speed sequential gearbox with helical cut gears, which according to Prodrive can change the ratios in just 80 milliseconds.
