The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico has issued an alert for various regions of the country due to the presence of potential tropical cyclone One in the Gulf of Mexico.
This system, in combination with the monsoon trough on the coasts of the South Pacific and southeast of the country, is generating severe weather conditions, including torrential rains in Chiapas and Campeche and intense rains in several entities of the northeast, east, southeast and the Yucatan Peninsula. .
During tonight and early morning, intense rains are expected in Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Puebla, Oaxaca, Yucatán and Quintana Roo; while in Tabasco and San Luis Potosí very heavy rains are forecast.
Nuevo León will experience heavy rains, significantly impacting daily routine and living conditions in these areas.
Additionally, the SMN has predicted winds with gusts of between 50 and 70 km/h on the coasts of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, and 40 to 60 km/h on the coasts of Tabasco and Campeche.
These winds could cause waves of 2 to 4 meters high in Tamaulipas and 1 to 3 meters in Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo. Conditions are also conducive to the formation of waterspouts on these coasts.
In parallel, a dry line over northern Mexico and a low pressure channel that extends over the Mesa del Norte, west, center and south of the country, along with instability at high levels of the atmosphere and the entry of moisture from the Ocean Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico are causing very heavy rains in Hidalgo, and heavy rains in Querétaro and Guerrero.
Intervals of showers are expected in states such as Coahuila, Durango, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, State of Mexico, Morelos and Tlaxcala, and isolated rains in Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato and Mexico City.
The SMN also warns of winds with gusts of up to 70 km/h and the possible formation of whirlwinds in Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and northern Tamaulipas.
Likewise, dust devils are forecast in San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Durango, Aguascalientes, Jalisco and Guanajuato, as well as wind gusts of up to 60 km/h on the coasts of Guerrero and dust devils in Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Michoacán, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Puebla, Tlaxcala, State of Mexico, Mexico City and Morelos.
These weather conditions could reduce visibility and cause landslides, flooding and flooding, in addition to increasing the levels of rivers and streams, putting the safety of the affected populations at risk.
