Shots
According to the Indigenous Missionary Council (Cimi), the crime occurred 300 meters from Hariel’s house, in Kakupli village. He lived with his mother and stepfather, leader of the Xokleng people. On April 4, the house had also been shot at and the PF is investigating the case.
The village is located in the Ibirama La Klaño Indigenous Land, where indigenous people from the Xokleng, Guarani and Kaingang ethnic groups live, to which Hariel belonged. The land dispute at the site was analyzed by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) when it considered the thesis of the time frame for demarcation of indigenous lands.
After the Court’s analysis, the National Congress approved a bill validating the landmark. According to CIMI, the episodes of violence in the region were intensified after the parliamentarians’ decision.
There are still actions in the STF on the topic. In a decision, minister Gilmar Mendes determined the carrying out conciliation in actions that deal with the validity of the time frame.
