Pistorius’ trip was kept secret until the last moment. Regarding the announced weapons package, the German Defense Minister said that some materials were about to be delivered. The package included a large number of medium-range Iris-T SLM air defense missiles and a smaller number of shorter-range SLS missiles, Pistorius said.
There are also drones for reconnaissance and combat in the Black Sea for the defenders in the Ukraine war. Pistorius also announced the delivery of spare parts such as replacement barrels for the artillery systems supplied by Germany and replacement engines for Leopard battle tanks. Ammunition is also part of the current arms deliveries to Ukraine.
Weapons deliveries from Germany: Pistorius reveals details
Pistorius said he was listing the details to “underline that we are not just currently delivering what is available”. Rather, particular emphasis was placed on sustainability by placing orders that will only become a reality in the next few years. In the future, Germany would also supply Kiev with additional vehicles for fighting in the war in Ukraine. These include Leopard A1 battle tanks, but also Leopard II A4 tanks from Spain. 19 tanks would be made available to Ukraine from Spain, and Germany would be involved in their restoration, maintenance and repair, said Pistorius.
