Leave it to a city with a muscular duck as its mascot to place bird boxes in prominent places. Along a busy intersection in the town of Woerden (referred to by the local youth as woofu) two new flash units have been installed in recent weeks. Flitsmeister already gives a neat message and you see that everyone is slowing down nicely. But if you look closely, there is something wrong with the cabinets.
The speed cameras are both still empty. Currently they are nothing more than two birdhouses about four meters high, including protection against predators from below. The website Indebuurt.nl reports that the installation of the piles was delayed due to staff shortages. The second post has only been erected since last Wednesday, and it is also empty.
At the end of September the birds have to fly
The piles were placed by the contractor on behalf of the municipality of Woerden. The speed cameras are still empty, because filling is not done by the municipality. The Public Prosecution Service is now responsible for placing the actual cameras and further adjustment. The new speed cameras are expected to be really active at the end of next month.
One of the main reasons for installing the speed cameras is noise pollution. At the busy intersection would be quite hard drakes to the chagrin of local residents. Instead of a short constant sound, they can now listen to cars slow down and then accelerate again. However, the tire noise would be less loud as a result.
