Bagnaia, it’s already a brace
A quiet force astride a wild Ducati. Francesco’s season couldn’t have started better Bagnaia. The world champion had already understood the bike’s potential in the pre-season tests, which closed with hugs to his work group for a Ducati that is currently two wheels ahead of everyone, not only on the track but also in terms of ideas: on this Desmosedici it sits wonderfully, and in fact in Portimão it crushed the competition, even resisting that of Aprilia which confirmed that it has a formidable race pace.
Bagnaia’s words
“Pecco” commented on his win a Sky Sports MotoGP: “We worked hard following my mistakes last year, we’ll see next weekend which isn’t on an easy track for us, but the potential is very high and we must always work like this like on this track, where we also carried out the tests. Physically it wasn’t tiring, it will be more so in the USA or at Mugello. Mentally, however, it was tough because yesterday I was quite tired: there were two very intense adrenaline peaks; we did qualifying, so the peak went up, then we stopped and it went down, then it came back up with the race. But maybe I need some training, it was the first race with this format, it was right to find out here to take measures in view of the next few weeks”.
The difference with 2022
“Last year we started with some problems that we were able to solve only by being together. The group makes the difference and you must always believe in it. This year we got off to a better start and the bike suits my riding style more, so it’s already a step forward and we’re working very well“, continued the world champion. “We’ve gained a lot in terms of handling: it’s not obvious to start in this way, and having succeeded makes me happy because the medal has been reversed compared to last year. When you feel comfortable with the bike and everything goes in the right direction, you feel more at ease“.
The contact between Marquez and Oliveira
Bagnaia also commented on the violent accident between Marc Marquez and Miguel Oliveira, which caused the Spaniard a possible fracture to the first metacarpal of his right hand and the Portuguese various bruises on his right leg: “The first race leads to being a little more aggressive, especially the riders who didn’t have the pace and tried to stay ahead to stay on the attack. I know Oliveira took a big hit and I hope he’s okay, but I hope it’s just something from the first race. Yesterday everyone lashed out against the Sprint, but it seems to me that the main race met the same end. It’s not about doing a 12-lap race with the soft or a 25-lap race with the medium, the approach of each driver changes“.
