The Mother’s Day celebration was last held in 2019.
President Sauli Niinistö awarded 30 mothers with honors for valuable work for children and families on Sunday.
As educators, the President awarded deserving mothers with the Finnish White Rose 1st class medal with gold crosses. The medals were presented at the Mother’s Day celebration, which was held at the Estates House in Helsinki. The Mother’s Day celebration was held for the first time since 2019. Last and second year, the celebration was not held due to the coronavirus situation.
The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health were responsible for arranging the celebration.
According to the Regional State Administrative Agency, the criteria for awarding the badge are the candidate’s merits as an exemplary educator of children and young people, as a promoter of family life and parenting, and as a guardian of caring for others.
Adoption and surrogate mothers can also be presented as recipients of the badge.
