Yesterday, the Moroccan authorities announced the thwarting of more than 60,000 irregular migration attempts and the dismantling of 250 networks active in this migration since the beginning of this year 2023.
A report by the Ministry of Interior stated that “the security authorities have redoubled their efforts to confront criminal networks active in the field of migrant smuggling.” The efforts resulted in “the failure of 60,192 illegal immigration attempts since the beginning of 2023, and the dismantling of 250 criminal networks,” according to the report. During the current year, “3,317 migrants were deported to their countries of origin, in coordination with the International Organization for Migration in Morocco.” He continued: “Since the beginning of 2023, the Royal Navy has been able to save 10,405 people from drowning, including 6,495 of foreign nationalities.”
The report added: “We took the initiative to regularize the status of refugees in Morocco registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, as the number of refugees recognized as of last September 18 reached approximately 2,300 refugees.”
