During a meeting this Friday (24) with agricultural producers on the last day of the traditional Expo Angus, which is being held in La Rural, in the Buenos Aires region, the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, reaffirmed his commitment to the agricultural sector of the country, promising significant measures to strengthen the economy and support market freedom.
Milei, who arrived at the scene accompanied by his sister, Karina Milei, was received enthusiastically by those present, according to information from the Argentine newspaper Clarin.
During his speech, the Argentine president highlighted the historical and future importance of the agricultural sector for Argentina and announced that, “following the path of economic growth and fiscal order”, his government will work to eliminate the PAIS Tax – a tax on transactions financial and purchases abroad implemented in 2019 – and taxes on exports of agricultural products, criticized by Argentine farmers as a “burden for the sector”.
According to Milei, eliminating these taxes is “an important step” towards a “totally free” Argentine countryside, a vision that was met with applause by farmers. Such measures announced by the libertarian are seen as a relief for producers, who have long been demanding greater freedom and less tax burden.
“As tax sources begin to recover and economic growth returns, we will first eliminate the PAIS tax and then we will eliminate retentions [impostos sobre as exportações de produtos agrícolas], so that the agricultural sector is completely free. As I promised in the campaign, we are delivering. We are finishing defusing the bombs that Kirchnerism left us, but believe me, we will be free and we will move forward. The agricultural sector will play a fundamental role”, said the president.
In addition to mentioning the issue of taxes, Milei also promised to work to eliminate the current set of measures implemented by the State to restrict or control access to foreign currency, mainly US dollars, known internally as “exchange rate”.
“We are working hard to eliminate exchange control and, when we finish deactivating all the bombs that the Kirchnerists left us, there will be a free exchange rate,” said Milei at the scene.
