Luxury bag courier missing on Amiata, two arrests. It’s a hunt for accomplices
Breakthrough in the investigation into the disappearance of Nicolas Matias Del Rio, the 40-year-old courier resident in Abbadia San Salvatore (Siena) who has not been heard from since May 22: two have been arrested. The last time, Del Rio, an Argentine national, was seen in Castel del Piano, on the Amiata (Grosseto), while he was making a delivery of luxury bags. The two arrested, arrested a few days ago, are a 33-year-old man of Albanian origin and a 42-year-old Turkish man: the crimes they are accused of are robbery and damage following fire to the courier truck, found burnt on 24 May in another country of the Maremma, Roccalbegna. It’s a hunt for accomplices.
Other members of the gang who allegedly burgled the courier’s truck are currently wanted. The load transported by the 40-year-old of Argentine origin was made up of bags produced by leather goods shops in the luxury fashion hub of Amiata, worth almost 500 thousand euros. The boxes containing the goods were found empty during searches following the missing person report on May 22, about 500 meters from the burned vehicle: still no trace of Nicolas Matias Del Rio.
The Albanian was arrested by the carabinieri at Rome Ciampino airport, as he was about to board a flight to Tirana. The Turk was instead stopped in Arcidosso (Grosseto). According to the investigators’ hypothesis, they would be part of an organization that is not new to such attacks. Prosecutor Giovanni De Marco is coordinating the investigations. The hearing to validate the arrest has been scheduled.
