During a visit to Rio Grande do Sul, the president states that only the two historical authorities would have experienced more “problems” than he did
The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Thursday (June 6, 2024) that only d. Pedro 2º (1825-1891) and Getúlio Vargas (1882-1954) have more experience than him. On a visit to Rio Grande do Sul, affected by heavy rains, the PT member said that only these two authorities in the history of Brazil have gone through more “problems”.
“Dom Pedro, who governed for almost 70 years until the Proclamation of the Republic [em 1889], who spent almost 70 years in power. Getúlio Vargas, who led the 1930 Revolution, stayed until 1945 and was then elected in 1954. After 2 years, only me. No one has the amount of experience I have of experiencing problems in this country”stated Lula.
D. Pedro 2º was the last emperor of Brazil, ruling from 1840 to 1889. In the case of Vargas, he governed the country from 1930 to 1945. Lula was wrong to say that the former president was elected in 1954. This year, the former president took his own life. He was elected in 1950.
In the South, Lula demanded that standards be updated to reduce bureaucracy in the process of rebuilding the State. He highlighted that everything must be done legally, with responsibility and more care to prevent environmental disasters from victimizing the population again. And he said that, at the moment, it is not time to look for culprits, but to find solutions.
The Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinhoannounced a provisional measure that grants 2 minimum wages in 2 months to 434,253 workers affected by the floods in Rio Grande do Sul.
