President of the Chamber calls a meeting of leaders for Monday and says that the State will be the subject of the week in Congress
The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), stated that he called the leaders of the Casa Baixa benches to a meeting in Brasília on Monday morning (May 6, 2024). They will discuss the approval of emergency measures aimed at the situation in Rio Grande do Sul. The state has recorded heavy rains since April 28th. In total, 78 people died.
“This week will be a lot of negotiation, a lot of work in the National Congress and the response will be tough, firm and effective as it was during the pandemic”said Lira in an interview with journalists with the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) this Sunday (May 5, 2024).
The deputy also said that the time is now to leave political differences “far away“. During the interview, Lira shared a table with the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha.
The two have been in a public feud for a few weeks after the president of Casa Baixa called the person responsible for the government’s political coordination “incompetent”.
The difference between them was quickly commented by Lula this Sunday (May 5). The president stated that the minister “fight with Lira”but that’s who “go bring the benches together and see what can be done” to help Rio Grande do Sul.
