In the process, the North American State cites complications in pregnancy and heart problems allegedly caused by the vaccine
The North American State of Kansas opened, on Monday (June 17, 2024), a lawsuit Against the Pfizer. The pharmaceutical company is accused of hiding supposed risks of the vaccine against Covid-19 and making false claims about its effectiveness, violating the State Consumer Protection Law.
“Pfizer made multiple false statements to mislead the public about its vaccine at a time when Americans needed the truth,” Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach said in statement.
In the lawsuit, which is in Thomas County District Court, Kobach claims that Pfizer hid alleged side effects, such as pregnancy complications, including miscarriage, and inflammation in and around the heart (myocarditis and pericarditis, respectively).
In a statement, the New York company said that the information about the anti-covid vaccine “were accurate and based on science” and that the lawsuit has no merit.
The vaccine began to be applied in January 2021. In June of the same year, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration, the US health oversight agency), added a warning about myocarditis and pericarditis to the product label. The effects, however, are rare and more frequent in adolescents and young men.
In 2023, new studies showed that the vaccine does not cause miscarriage.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a similar lawsuit against Pfizer last year, which remains pending. According to Kobach, other North American states are investigating the effects of the vaccine and are expected to take legal action against the pharmaceutical company.
