Judgments|A woman in her forties tore a 15-year-old girl’s hair because she had abused the woman’s child. The woman received a fine for her act.
Western Uusimaa the district court sentenced a woman born in 1980 to a 30-day fine for assault.
The victim of the crime was a 15-year-old girl who, at the time of the incident, was suspected of assaulting the daughter of a convicted woman.
Girl had been out and about in the Espoo center area with two friends in November 2022, when the woman’s older daughter had encountered the trio while walking the dog.
The woman’s daughter, who was the older sister of the previously abused girl, had a verbal altercation with the trio. The daughter called her mother. During the situation, the daughter’s dog bit two of the girls.
When the woman arrived, the victim tried to hide behind her friends. However, the woman managed to tear him by the hair and grab the victim’s arm strongly.
Woman denied having used violence. He said that he only demanded the girl to show her face. According to the woman, the entire criminal complaint regarding the abuse was made only to disrupt the trial of her daughter’s abuse.
The victim’s friend, on the other hand, said that the woman arrived at the scene cursing and at the same time accusing the victim of assault. Then, according to the witness, the woman had started pushing and hitting the victim.
The court had to weigh two opposing versions: the victim and her friend told a different story than the woman and her daughter.
District court according to that, the actions of the daughter who was walking the dog were not logical, because the daughter had called her mother’s place even though she claimed that the trio had started an argument.
In the court’s opinion, the story of the victim and his friend seemed more reliable. The court did not believe that it was revenge or bullying by the victim.
In addition to the fine, the woman was ordered to pay the victim EUR 200 compensation for suffering.
The woman appealed the district court’s decision to the Court of Appeal. The Helsinki Court of Appeal did not grant permission for further processing.
