Judgments | A man and a woman tortured their acquaintance for hours because of a made-up debt in Helsinki

Man was subjected to several hours of violent torture in August 2023. The man who held the man prisoner and the woman who was 18 years old at the time of the incident were sentenced to prison for serious crimes.

The victim had gone to a man’s village in Helsinki, when suddenly the host had announced that the victim had stolen from him. The man had hit the victim, knocked him to the ground and tied the victim’s hands and feet behind his back with an extension cord together with a woman who was in the apartment.

The victim had been subjected to violence for hours, such as kicking and slashing with a knife. Amphetamine had been put in the victim’s mouth.

Also the victim’s father was called. Thousands of euros were demanded from the father, otherwise his son would not get out of the apartment alive.

The victim was told that he would be taken to Nuuksio to be killed. The man tried to get a ride to Nuuksi, but failed.

In the end, the victim was let out of the apartment on the condition that he would not talk to the police.

Helsinki the district court sentenced the person born in 1996 Jarkko Kalevi Lyytikainen for attempted aggravated robbery, aggravated deprivation of liberty and drug offense to three and a half years in prison.

Born in 2005 Heinar Bibani was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for attempted aggravated robbery and aggravated deprivation of liberty.

Together, they were ordered to pay the victim EUR 1,300 in damages.

Both the convicted appealed their sentences to the Court of Appeal. The Court of Appeal found that the convicted woman was young at the time of the crime. According to the court, it was obvious that his immaturity contributed to the commission of the crimes.

The woman’s sentence was reduced in the Court of Appeal to two years of unconditional imprisonment. The man’s punishment did not change in the Court of Appeal.
