One day after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to cease its military operations in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, the country returned to bombing the region.
Air strikes and artillery fire were also recorded in other areas in the south (Khan Yunis), central (Deir Al-Balah and Nuseirat) and north (Jabaliya and Gaza City) of Palestine.
The highest court of the United Nations, the ICJ also ordered, on Friday (24), that the Israeli government allow humanitarian aid to enter Rafah and guarantee access to the enclave for international observers.
Furthermore, the organization gave Tel Aviv a month’s deadline to present information on the progress of the war with Hamas. However, the Hague Court does not have the resources to force the Israelis to comply with the decision.
The Israeli government, in turn, reiterated that it has respected international laws and adopted measures to reduce civilian deaths. But he also stated that Hamas continues to hide terrorists and store weapons in the region.
Even the leader of the Israeli opposition, Yair Lapid, considered the ICJ decision “unfair”. According to him, the Court did not take into account that the fighting in Rafah seeks to guarantee the rescue of hostages still in the hands of Hamas.
In a statement released this Saturday (25), the Israeli Army highlighted its advances in hand-to-hand combat in Palestinian territory. According to the note, the country’s troops opened fire on a terrorist cell in Rafah and dismantled military infrastructure in Jabaliya throughout the day.
