According to the president of the State Information Service, Diaa Rashwan, the country received “positive signals”
The president of Egyptian State Information ServiceDiaa Rashwan, said in a statement that the country received “positive signs” for a possible extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas for another 1 or 2 days.
According to information from ReutersRashwan stated that the country was holding extensive talks with all parties involved to reach an agreement on extending the 4-day truce, which “means the release of more detainees in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons”.
The ceasefire began on Friday (24.Nov.2023). On the first day, 24 Hamas hostages were released – 13 Israelis, 10 Thais and 1 Filipino. In return, 39 Palestinians were released
This Saturday (Nov 25), the truce reaches its 2nd day. According to CNNthe Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, and the Israel Defense Forces have already received the list with names of hostages to be released throughout the day.
According to the newspaper Times of Israelthe Israel Prison Service received a list of 42 Palestinians who must be released in return for the release of more hostages.
Along with Egypt, Qatar and the US also mediated the agreement. It establishes the release of at least 50 hostages held by Hamas. Israel will release at least 150 Palestinian prisoners.
The agreement also includes sending trucks with humanitarian aid.
THE DEAL
In the first phase of the agreement, Hamas must release around 50 Israeli women and children under the age of 19 detained in Gaza, while Israel must release approximately 150 Palestinian prisoners – the majority of them women and minors.
In a statement published by Hamas on Wednesday (Nov 22) on Telegram, the group details other terms of the agreement. Are they:
- ban on air traffic in southern Gaza for 4 days;
- ban on air traffic in northern Gaza for 6 hours on each day of truce;
- free movement of people, especially on Salah Al-Din Street, to facilitate movement from north to south of Gaza
