The general director of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), Sandoval de Feitosa, explained this Monday, 6th, that energy distributors are exempt from liability in case of critical events, such as heavy rains in greater São Paulo in Friday, 3.
Sandoval met with representatives of energy distributors, including Enel, with the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), and with the mayor of the capital, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), to address the crisis. Hundreds of thousands of consumers in the metropolitan region of São Paulo are still without electricity.
The CEO of Enel in São Paulo, Max Xavier, refuted the criticism related to the dismissal of employees, seen as one of the possible aggravating factors of the problem. According to him, the company’s current workforce is sufficient to meet technical and commercial objectives.
Xavier also pointed out that the company invested, in the last 5 years, R$6.7 billion in the concession, and with these resources, the company’s indicators point to improvements.
During a press conference this afternoon, trees were identified as “big villains” of the crisis that began on Friday.
Regarding the blackout for this holiday, Sandoval stated that the engagement and coordination of States and municipalities is necessary. The director of Aneel even cited São Paulo’s “summer plan” as an example of engagement, in which the Public Services Regulatory Agency of the State of São Paulo (Arsesp) and distributors prepare to deal with predicted weather events.
After experts pointed to grounding the electrical network as a proposed solution, Sandoval recalled that the measure has a high cost, and can be between eight and nine times more expensive than aerial cabling, and its implementation needs to be analyzed on a case-by-case basis.
