Imu, double-digit price increases: here’s who for. Punch to the owners of luxury homes.
The deadline for the deposit is almost over of the IMU, expected for Monday 17 June. In detail, for this payment the increases already approved for the current year will not be applied. However, some Municipalities have already decided to change the ratesand these increases will be applied to the December balance.
Many owners will therefore have to pay attention to the December balance, since the amount of the IMU could be higher than the previous year. An initial survey of the resolutions published on the Finance Department website shows that many Municipalities have decided to increase the IMU rates for 2024. These increases, which will be applied to the December balance, will increase the final tax bill for 2024.

Some Italian municipalities are increasing the IMU on luxury homes and building areas.
Luxury homes
In Taranto, Loano and Varazze, the IMU rate on luxury main homes (land registry categories A/1, A/8 and A/9) has been increased to 0.5%, the basic level required by law. This concerns villas, castles and stately homes. This is an increase compared to previous years, but it should be remembered that for these homes there is a deduction of 200 euros.
Building areas
In Cuneo and Mantua, the IMU on building areas was increased by 0.1%.
Production properties
Many municipalities, including Belluno and Empoli, have increased the IMU on productive properties. In some cases, such as in Ivrea and Sassari, specific rates have been introduced for banks and shopping centres.
Conclusions
These IMU increases are in line with the general trend of many Italian municipalities to increase the tax burden on luxury properties and productive activities.
