Minister Mauro Vieira, of Foreign Affairs, stated that Hungary and Nicaragua are two of the 52 countries and international organizations that support or intend to support the proposal created by Brazil and China to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The proposal was announced last month with “in-depth views on promoting a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine and de-escalating the situation”. Brazil and China call for the participation of the two countries in the conflict to avoid the expansion of the battlefield, the escalation of fighting and provocations.
The announcement that 52 countries are sympathetic to the Sino-Brazilian proposal was made this Thursday (13) during Vieira’s trip to Russia to participate in a meeting of Brics foreign ministers, where he met his Chinese counterpart Wang Li.
“Recently, China and Brazil jointly issued six common understandings on the political solution of the Ukraine issue. More and more countries understand and approve it,” said Wang.
During the meeting with Vieira, Wang highlighted that this year marks the beginning of “expanded BRICS cooperation” and highlighted China’s desire to work with Brazil so that the bloc of countries plays a more significant role in global governance and defense of interests of developing countries.
The Brazilian chancellor highlighted the recent “successful visit” of Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) to Beijing, and commented that “Brazil and China share similar positions on many issues”, including the joint statement on the six common understandings he considers it to be of “significant importance”.
The document announced in May by Wang and Celso Amorim, advisor to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for international affairs, includes support from China and Brazil for an international peace conference that is recognized by both Russia and Ukraine, with the equal participation of all parties involved and a fair discussion of all peace plans.
Amorim’s advisor informed that Brazil and China are committed to engaging friendly countries to build this peace conference. President Lula spoke last Monday (10) with Russian President Vladimir Putin and, according to the Brazilian government, reiterated his defense of peace negotiations involving both sides of the conflict, aligning himself with the document signed by Amorim and Wang.
