Flood renewed historic record this Sunday morning (May 5); storm has already left 55 people dead in Rio Grande do Sul
The level of the Guaíba river rose again this Sunday (May 5, 2024), second the City Hall of Porto Alegre (RS). The river reached the mark of 5.29 meters, a historic record in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.
The measurement was carried out by the State Secretariat for the Environment and Infrastructure and by ANA (National Water Agency).
The current level is more than double the alert level, which is 2.5 meters. From 3 meters, there is a risk of flooding.
As of Saturday (May 4), the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul reported that the State had 55 confirmed deaths and 7 under investigation due to the rains. Another 74 people remain missing. There are still 13,324 people in shelters and 69,242 homeless. In total, more than half a million were affected.
