Gaza (Union)
Hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip announced for the first time the opening of special departments to receive cases of malnutrition and dehydration, in light of the famine that besieges more than 700,000 Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip due to the Israeli army continuing to cut off food supplies, medicines, and solutions for children.
Kamal Adwan Hospital confirmed that, despite the lack of capabilities, it opened a special department to receive cases of malnutrition, in light of the spread of famine in the northern Gaza Strip, with food stocks running out several weeks ago, and preventing the arrival of aid provided by international organizations.
For its part, the Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed that the humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip are catastrophic, especially in light of the spread of diseases and epidemics, as a result of severe overcrowding in shelter centers, stressing that about a million Palestinians have been infected with infectious diseases, warning of the spread of a “cholera” epidemic among the displaced.
The Palestinian Red Crescent revealed the spread of “hepatitis epidemic” among Gazans, as thousands of cases infected with this epidemic were recorded.
In turn, a Palestinian source revealed that famine in Gaza killed 40 children, while 3,500 children face the risk of death due to malnutrition and lack of nutritional supplements and vaccinations.
The source warned of the deterioration of the humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, with the worsening suffering of residents who lack the most basic necessities of human life in light of the ongoing siege and continuous bombing.
In turn, the United Nations reported that Israeli attacks on health infrastructure and restrictions on movement in the occupied West Bank prevent access to health services.
The United Nations Population Fund explained, through its account on the “X” platform, yesterday that 8,000 pregnant women in the region will give birth next month.
He said: “15 percent of them will face complications, and the lack of medical care could mean a death sentence.”
On June 15, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed his concern about the worsening health crisis in the occupied West Bank, calling for immediate and effective protection for civilians and medical services there.
In this context, the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry concerned with crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territories announced that Israel had killed and maimed tens of thousands of children in the Gaza Strip.
This was stated by the head of the committee, Navi Pillay, yesterday, in a meeting on the committee’s report on the sidelines of the 56th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in the Swiss city of Geneva.
Pillay added: “It is also possible that thousands of children are under the rubble as a result of the raids carried out by the Israeli army on Gaza.”
She noted that the Israeli war has seriously affected the infrastructure necessary for children’s well-being, including hospitals, schools and basic services.
