The federal government released another R$1.8 billion for reconstruction actions in Rio Grande do Sul. The authorization of extraordinary credit was made through the edition of the Provisional Measure 1,223/2024published on Thursday night (23).
The MP comes into force immediately, but needs to be approved by the National Congress to avoid losing its validity.

The majority of the amount will go to Civil Defense actions and the Reconstruction Aid, totaling more than R$1.4 billion. The resources authorized today may also be used to resume the activities of universities and federal institutes, free legal assistance, connectivity services, environmental inspection, acquisition of equipment for guardianship councils and the activities of the Federal Police, Federal Highway Police and the National Public Security Force .
On the 11th, the federal government had already allocated R$12.1 billion, also via MP, to the state, for shelters, medication replacement, highway repairs and others.

– Strengthening of comprehensive and free legal assistance (R$ 13,831,693)
– Support for emergency services and connectivity (R$ 27,861,384)
– Inspection and environmental emergency actions (R$ 26,000,000)
– Acquisition of equipment for Guardianship Councils (R$ 1,000,000)
– Civil Defense actions (R$ 269,710,000)
– Reconstruction Aid (R$ 1,226,115,000)
– Integrated actions by the Federal Police, Federal Highway and the National Public Security Force (R$51,260,970).
According to the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, the credit aims to meet “various expenses related to combating the consequences arising from the climate tragedy that hit Rio Grande do Sul, both in terms of civil defense and logistics, as well as confronting of the social and economic consequences that harm the entire population and government entities”.
In total, R$62.5 billion has already been allocated to the state, devastated by the rains, according to the Presidency of the Republic.
