The Mochitense writer Alfonso Orejel Soria is premiering a book. It is a novel entitled “The look of evil”, edited by the Autonomous University of Nuevo León. It is a youth story, quite captivating and revealing that reflects the situations that children suffer today.
The author specialized in writing horror stories and coordinator of the Los Mochis Book Fair also provided some information about the long-awaited festival of letters in this city.
The book is already on sale in Monterrey and he intends to present it not at the FIL in Los Mochis, to give space to other authors, he said, but he is interested in taking it to schools or wherever he is invited, starting in the last week of October.
On Thursday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m., it will be his first presentation at the Horror Festival, in the courtyard of the Mazatlán Museum of Art, where the author has been the guest of honor.
What do you want with this book?
I try to tell a story in such a way that it is attractive, mesmerizing, capable of seducing the coldest reader. My aspiration was to write a novel that had the ability to make the reader laugh and suffer. The theme is the phenomenon of evil, the nature of evil in our time.
How does the story come about?
This novel arises because the perception that I have had for many years is pessimistic about the infection of evil in our time. It is increasingly common to open the newspaper, enter social networks and look on the street, our neighborhood or subdivision, and realize that violence, hatred, abandonment, crime, have raged with us, with our citizenship. and people who accompany us.
I feel that there is a kind of generation of evil in any of its forms: hatred, resentment, pettiness, selfishness, lack of solidarity, compassion for animals, for people, for different people. And, in this sense, I wanted to write a novel that, although based on a fantastic story, is also based on brutal events that occur in the underworld, criminal events that unfortunately have become the daily bread in our cities. .
Here, the protagonist is a high school boy who is going to tell his own experience of evil. Unfortunately, many of our young people and children have been corrupted by evil, and I’m not talking about adults anymore. And why do I emphasize children? We believe in the idea that children live in an idyllic state or we try to keep them away from the temptations of evil, and suddenly we realize that it has been false.
We lose many children and young people who join the hired killers, to other forms of evil, and in that sense it seems that we are losing the battle. Evil is the hand that rocks the cradle in each power, in each municipal presidency, in each national presidency, in each governorship, in many institutions, and in that sense the police, the army, a school, an unfortunate stepfather, a mother unconscious, the evil is there, and how to neutralize it. I have dreamed a little or I have the false illusion that this novel raises awareness about this situation. Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t know, just until you read it.”
How has this dumbbell with Juan Gedovius been?
“Juan Gedovius has been an unconditional accomplice of my literary delusions, he is a great friend of mine. Perhaps my works would not have so much weight without his illustrations. We have won some national contests. We have an unpublished book that no one has bought, it’s 8 horror stories. He is the one who designs the official poster of the FIL of Los Mochis, I hope that we continue in this dumbbell for a long time.
What is the plot of the book?
The protagonist is a fifteen-year-old teenager who, being captivated by the charm of a classmate, enters a mysterious world. He suffers from his stepfather, an abusive and castrating subject. A series of crimes occur in the city with certain ritual signs, whose authorship is unknown. A journalist is willing to enter a sinister world to solve the enigma, just like a girl, addicted to the deep web and the occult. This takes place in a gloomy atmosphere plagued by disturbing symbols. The temptation of evil functions as the main motif of the story and portrays the dire condition of our time. The boy receives a proposal that could offer him a dose of immortality.
Would you, reader, be able to resist an offer of such magnitude? What about the Los Mochis Book Fair 2022?
The call for the Sinaloa Letters Award has already been issued. You will see important names at the Book Fair, we have already advanced almost everything. It will be in December, we will have puppets, theater, music, many authors for children and adults. We are going to try to keep the plaza clean of vendors, so that many school children go to this space, which is also a playful space, for literary recreation, for peace.
