On April 12, the European Union (EU) sanctioned the armed wings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, after accusing them of using “generalized sexual and gender violence” during the surprise attack on southern Israel on October 7. that sparked the ongoing war in Gaza. Previously, Islamist groups have rejected these accusations against them. Meanwhile, Israeli authorities assured that the first convoy with humanitarian aid entered the north of the enclave. This is the area most affected by “hotspots of famine”, as the UN denounces, because the passage of assistance through that area has been blocked since the current hostilities began, more than six months ago. However, humanitarian organizations warn that the food influx remains insufficient to cover the urgent needs of Gazans.
