Ethiopian Airlines will continue to operate Moscow-Addis Ababa-Moscow flights according to the schedule from April 12, 2022. This is stated in a release received on March 17 by Izvestia.
Aircraft will fly four times a week from Domodedovo International Airport from Tuesday to Saturday inclusive.
“Flights will be operated on a comfortable Boeing-787 Dreamliner aircraft to the most exotic destinations in Africa: South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Namibia, the Seychelles and even the Comoros,” the air carrier said.
The increased humidity levels and improved sound insulation of the Dreamliner will make it easier for passengers to endure long flights. Currently, it is not possible to issue a ticket on the website and in the application, a ticket can only be purchased in booking systems or at the airline’s office.
Ethiopian Airlines is Ethiopia’s flagship and largest airline. Its fleet includes Airbus A350, Boeing 787-8, Boeing 787-9, Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 777-200LR, Boeing 777-200 Freighter, Bombardier Q-400.
Earlier Thursday, it was reported that Moroccan airline Royal Air Maroc had suspended flights to Russia indefinitely. On March 12, the Kazakh airline Qazaq Air announced the suspension of flights due to the lack of insurance coverage on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Due to EU sanctions, all flights from Russia have been suspended by Royal Flight since March 5. Earlier, Aeroflot announced the cancellation of all flights to Europe.
On February 28, in response to the decision of the European Union to close the skies for Russian airlines, the Federal Air Transport Agency restricted flights over Russian territory to carriers from 36 countries. Flights from these states can be operated with a special permit issued by the Federal Air Transport Agency or the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The decision of the EU countries to close the skies for Russia was a response to Moscow’s ongoing operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which was announced on February 24 by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Against this background, Western countries, including the UK, the EU, the US and Japan, have imposed anti-Russian sanctions.
The situation in Donbass escalated on February 17, 2022. The DPR and LPR reported heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces, including from heavy weapons. On February 21, Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
