Egyptian media quoted a high-level source as saying that Cairo continues to intensify its contacts with all parties to reach a truce agreement in Gaza within the framework of the recent proposal announced by US President John Biden.
On May 31, US President Joe Biden announced a new plan proposed by Israel to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, consisting of 3 stages.
He explained that the first phase will last 6 weeks with a comprehensive ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from residential areas in Gaza, while the second phase will witness the exchange of all remaining living detainees, and the third phase includes a large reconstruction plan for the Gaza Strip, stressing that the proposal was conveyed to the Egyptian and Qatari mediators and to the factions. In this context, an official in the Palestinian factions said yesterday that the factions showed seriousness and flexibility to reach an agreement to stop the war, indicating that their response, which they delivered to the mediators in Qatar, is consistent with the principles contained in the US President’s speech.
In turn, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, quoting an Israeli source, said that Qatar and Egypt are exerting pressure to reach talks with the factions regarding the latest truce proposal.
