Today, Sunday, Egypt called for holding a regional and international summit on the “Palestinian issue,” reaffirming “the rejection of attempts to liquidate the Palestinian issue,” according to a statement published by the Egyptian presidency.
This call was issued in a statement following a meeting held by the Egyptian National Security Council headed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, prior to the arrival of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Cairo.
Egypt offered to extend an invitation to host the summit, which will address developments and the future of the Palestinian issue, according to the statement published on the official page of the Egyptian presidency on Facebook.
The statement stated that Cairo “continues contacts with international and regional partners in order to reduce the escalation and stop targeting civilians,” and also continues contacts to “deliver the required humanitarian aid” to the Gaza Strip.
There is aid from many countries in the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula that can be safely delivered to Gaza.
United Nations aid official Martin Griffiths said on Saturday that the humanitarian situation in Gaza had reached an “unprecedented dangerous level.”
