In the extraordinary assembly of the Dimayor this Wednesday it will be decided if Cúcuta Deportivo is accepted again. Thursday will be the general assembly, and the aspiration of the new directors of the Motilón team, who took office on Monday, is that they can already participate in it as partners.
What is at stake
Several presidents consulted in recent days by EL TIEMPO assure that the acceptance of Cúcuta’s return is practically a fact.
It would return maintaining its status as a class A team, that is, with all full economic rights, and with the right to vote in the assembly, which would be against the permanence of Dimayor president Fernando Jaramillo.
Apparently the majority’s intention is for Cúcuta to return in category B. There would be a consensus to reinstate him, although there are teams from the second division that would ask him to return in 2022, so as not to affect the development of the tournament that is already underway.
“Where are we going? No idea. What we want? Enter from one and to A, but that has to be debated by the assembly, if we go to A or B, if it is already or if it is in June”, said the new president, Eduardo Silva.
The road to Cucuta
On October 29, 2020, the Ministry of Sports suspended Cúcuta’s sports recognition, due to constant breaches in labor matters. On November 11, the Superintendency of Companies ordered the liquidation of the club.
They had given him an artificial respirator, authorizing him to function for four more months. However, Dimayor hit him the same day, on November 25, by disaffiliating him. The league was lame, with 19 clubs.
More than a year later, the mayor of Cúcuta, Jairo Yáñez, announced that the reorganization of the debt had been achieved, and then Dimayor called a meeting on March 16 to decide on readmission. Everything seems to go that way.
After 493 days since the team’s last game in professional soccer, Cúcuta Deportivo had a new governing body and president on Monday. It is an important step to compete again.
There is concern is the presence, in the shadow, of José Augusto Cadena, the leader who is blamed for the disappearance of the club. Two of his relatives remained on the new board. “José Augusto continues to be the club’s largest shareholder,” Silva stressed.
