Crosetto: “Disgusted by those who dump Toti. Politicized prosecutors overturn the laws”
“I am disgusted by people who speculate on events of this type, but I know I am in a clear minority, even within the centre-right. Today I saw the statements of a Forza Italia minister who, in fact, dumps Toti, forgetting the story of the founder of his party and the persecution he suffered. I can’t understand these things and I can’t stand them anymore.” So in an interview with The print the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto.
“In Italy – he adds – there is a heavy climate, worrying, which also has an intolerable impact on personal life”. “I try more and more contempt towards people who say they want to serve the State and instead often only serve their personal micro-interests – he underlines -. In no other country is there such a low level of respect for institutional roles and national, non-political or partisan interests. But I have made a commitment and I will remain at my post to do my duty. When my task as minister ends, I believe that I will return to where I had decided to be for years: in the private sphere.”
“Investigations are a minimal part of the climate I’m talking about – he continues -. Mine is forcibly seen as an attack on the judiciary, but it is only an attempt to build common and shared rules. I understand that it is convenient to consider it an attack to continue not addressing the issues in a serious way.” “I would like clarity: if I see that the suspect did not obtain any personal advantage and that his administrative actions were legitimate, I don’t understand how anyone can arrest him – he underlines -. When the contested interest is based entirely on a difference in political culture, it means that if the governor has the same ideas as the prosecutor, then he has pursued a just and legitimate act, but if they are different it is a crime. But this is politics, not jurisprudence, and above all it has nothing to do with the law.”
When asked if he sees a politicized judiciary, he replies: “There are currents and therefore it is politicised. I notice it. The balance, however, is not endangered by the currents of the judiciary, but by a power that no longer has controls, in which even a single prosecutor, if angry with someone, can destroy him. I would like some guarantees on this. Let the ANM suggest what type of control is needed for justice to be third. They respond in a non-corporate way and don’t use me as public enemy number one.”
