Swift will perform in Edinburgh on three nights from 7th to 9th. June. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected in the city. There is a shortage of accommodation.
According to the BBC, homeless people who have accommodation in Edinburgh have not been evicted from their accommodation. On the other hand, there is no room for newcomers.
Shelter Scotland organization tells the BBC that accommodation is sometimes arranged for the homeless in hotels, but the concerts have put the homeless in an unfair position.
“In Edinburgh, the homeless are set to compete against tourists; completely unfair”, the head of the organization Alison Watson says.
“Our frontline workers have already seen people who have been told their only option is to leave the city.”
Homelessness is a growing problem in Scotland: earlier in May, the country’s government declared that the settlement situation is in crisis. Scottish law requires a homeless person to be offered temporary accommodation in an emergency.
To these sometimes hotels are used for situations, for a maximum of one week at a time per person.
The Eras tour, which has become Swift’s phenomenon, is over the summer in Europe. The tour is estimated to significantly improve the economy of the cities where it stops.
