Justice, competition in the judiciary: only 5.9% of candidates eligible. The balance of the future magistrates continues in the negative
The flop of the candidates continues competition in the judiciary. Suitable less than 6%. This is the competition for 310 places in the judiciary, banned in 2019 but whose written tests due to the pandemic were held only last July, from 12 to 16. The negative data are associated with “poor writing skills” of the aspiring magistrates: “technical gaps” but also “grammatical deficiencies”.
The percentage of those eligible today stands at 5.9%, according to the data published on the website of the Ministry of Justice. So far from the Commission they have been examined more than half of the writings: 2152 out of 3797 (candidates who delivered out of 5,827), based on data updated as of January 31. The “promoted” are only 127, last December the number was still at 88 eligible.
If the trend continues, the risk concrete is failing to fill banned places. A problem that is not new and that “must be addressed”, as the Minister of Justice has emphasized on several occasions Marta Cartabia, sounding the alarm on the training of aspiring magistrates. In November he had introduced the matter during the opening of the new year of the judiciary school.
The size of the problem is also highlighted by a comparison with the outcome of another very selective competition, again in the field of justice, that for 400 notary posts, banned in 2019. The correction of the written tests, delivered by 1577 candidates, began on January 18th of this year. And as of January 31st, out of 41 papers examined, 6 were eligible, that is 17%. A percentage more than double compared to that of those promoted among aspiring magistrates.
