Available from yesterday 24 October 2023, Cities: Skylines 2 has already received more than 10,000 reviews on Steam, 51% of which were negative. The reason? Optimization, of course. Despite this, the game is first in the global top 10 of the platform, meaning it is selling really well.
Review optimization
In short, Colossal Order’s warning that Cities: Skylines 2 would be released not well optimized at launch didn’t help much, given that many people bought the game anyway.
It must be said that there seem to be problems even at low details, as complained for example by the user Giova243: “You can’t release a lagging game on an i9 and 3060ti at low settings.” Be that as it may, optimization is at the center of most criticisms, such as that of Fauci 78: “Forget the zen tranquility of watching your city pulsate to the rhythm of urban life; instead, prepare to peer at a slideshow that would make any cross-stitch artist proud. “Frame drops” is an understatement; it’s more like every frame was a precious work of art that the game chooses to show us in an exclusive preview of a few seconds, one at a time.”
It must be said, however, that those who have managed to play it speak of a truly well-made and engaging title. Furthermore there are several testimonials with advice on how to optimize the game. In short, if you don’t want to fight with the graphics settings, it seems better to wait a bit before buying it.
