Center|The opposing candidate was MP Tuomas Kettunen, there were no other candidates.
Congressman and former Minister of Defense Antti Kaikkonen, 50, is the center’s new chairman. Kaikkonen, who lives in Sipoo, was elected to the position with 1368–308 votes.
Kaikkonen’s counter-candidate was a second-term member of parliament from Kuhmo Tuomas Kettunen36.
There were no other candidates, which upset some of the participants in the party meeting. They considered it a bad sign if the leadership positions of the party are not interesting.
In his introductory speech, Kaikkonen tried to instill faith in the centre, which, according to him, has been a wing in the country for too long. Kaikkonen, who just built his own house in Sipoo, compared the center to a house that needs renovation. He even went to the speaker’s booth with a tool kit and a cotton passport.
Kettunen, on the other hand, characterized himself as a man of the people and an ordinary person and freely admitted his limited experience compared to Kaikkone.
Kaikkonen the selection was considered completely certain in advance, which could discourage others who were thinking about the task. Kaikkonen was a candidate for chairman as early as 2019, but at that time the people in the center nominated him for the position Katri Kulmunin.
Kulmuni only had time to be chairman for a year and did not lead the center to a single election, when he was already challenged. Now receding Annika Saarikko was elected as the new chairman in 2020.
