Canada imposed sanctions against the heads and employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the Investigative Committee in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug
Canada imposed sanctions against the leaders and employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug), where Alexei Navalny was serving his sentence (included in the list of terrorists and extremists; the FBK established by him was included by the Ministry of Justice in the register of foreign agent organizations, recognized as an extremist as well as an undesirable organization and banned in Russia). About it reported on the website of the country’s government.
Thirteen people were included in the list, in particular, the head of the Investigative Committee for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Andrei Egorov and his deputy Dmitry Tsymbalenko, the head of the investigative department of the RF Investigative Committee for Salekhard Sergei Patlatyuk, as well as the deputy head of the affairs department of the Federal Penitentiary Service Dmitry Sharovatov.
Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov said that Moscow would respond to Canada’s new sanctions. He also called the sanctions “another gesture of despair and a sign of the international impotence of official Ottawa.” At the same time, the diplomat assured that retaliatory measures from the Russian side will follow based on the principle of reciprocity.
