Once the emotions and controversies inherent to the Italian Grand Prix have been filed away, the world of Formula 1 seems close to a significant change from a sporting-regulatory point of view. Specifically, as confirmed by the President of F1 himself, Stefano Domenicalithe intention would be to award points also for free practice, as well as to establish an inverted starting grid.
These possible innovations, currently being examined by the teams and the FIA, could also include an increase in sprint racessuch as to be included in the weekend of each GP on the calendar. All hypotheses that are causing perplexity in Formula 1 fans, as well as in some drivers. Among them, the Finn from Alfa Romeo Valtteri Bottas.
According to the former Mercedes driver, the inclusion of sprint races would not be the ideal option for the Circus, even if the number 77 has nevertheless proposed another idea to change the format of the weekend. Above all, the possibility of being able to shorten the race weekend in two days: “I don’t think there is a need for sprinting every weekend, just for less rehearsal and more action – explained the Finnish – at the moment, if I had to choose between sprint and non-sprint, I would say sprint because we are immediately in action on Friday. Normally there is still the possibility to learn with long-running, but you can no longer change the set-up, so you could have a two-day weekend with practice, qualifying and the race. I’m sure there’s a reason it’s a three day weekend. But I don’t know, they wouldn’t be bad rehearsal on Friday evening and then immediately in action on Saturday morning“.
