How scary a year ago
Hit by Takaaki Nagakami at the start in 2022, unseated by Ducati and hit in the leg by Binder in 2023: Francesco Bagnaia has the Barcelona weekend in its sights, aware that after the last two editions it could have a debt to collect with fate. The two-time reigning world champion is fresh from third place in Le Mans and has 38 points to make up in the standings over Jorge Martin.
“Just as in France, We were also unlucky at Montmeló in 2022 and 2023, but this year I hope it goes differently – Bagnaia’s words – the last weekend at Le Mans was positive overall even if we lacked something in the race compared to our rivals. It will therefore be important to continue working to be even more competitive. Compared to Le Mans, I expect very different grip conditions here in Barcelona and there will be some very fast opponents. In any case, I am confident and ready to give my best as always“.
Also Enea Bastianini a year ago he suffered an even more serious injury than Bagnaia’s despite a less frightening situation. The 2020 Moto2 world champion will try to return to the podium after missing it in Jerez and Le Mans: “Unfortunately, I don’t have good memories of Barcelona last year, seeing the accident I had in the race which then forced me to miss three more GPs. Despite this, I arrive at Montmeló serene and confident: race after race I manage to be faster and I am constantly improving. We have a good base from which to start the weekend’s work and the goal is to continue fighting for the top positions“.
