In 2005, in the US state of Massachusetts, Tuen Kit Lee kidnapped and raped a waitress from his family’s restaurant at knifepoint. The girl was found tied to the bed by her boyfriend. Two years later, the man was charged. The criminal was identified by DNA analysis and a specific odor from his breath. That’s when Lee earned the nickname “the bad breath rapist.”
The man posted bail in the amount of one hundred thousand dollars (almost nine million rubles) in order not to be held in custody during the investigation, and fled in the midst of legal proceedings. The jury found Lee guilty in absentia on all charges.

The police have continued to search for the rapist for the past 17 years. This year, they managed to find the address of the expensive residence of a flower shop owner associated with Lee. So the police tracked down and arrested the criminal.
Lee was trying to drive away in a car with a woman when they were stopped by police. The rapist gave a false name, but was identified by fingerprints. According to Massachusetts State Police, the criminal’s partner, who lived with him for 15 years, did not know about his past. Lee was taken into custody.
