Reuters: Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Kenya called for Russia’s participation in the summit
During the conference on Ukraine in Switzerland, three countries announced the need for Russia to participate in the negotiations. This is reported by Reuters.
It is clarified that we are talking about Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Kenya. Representatives of the above-mentioned countries believe that it will not be possible to achieve significant progress without dialogue with Moscow.
Thus, according to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, the summit would be “more result-oriented” if both sides of the conflict were present at it. In turn, his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud pointed out that credible negotiations involve a “difficult compromise.”
Kenyan President William Ruto criticized Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, calling it “unjustified and unfair,” but spoke in favor of Moscow’s participation in the conflict resolution conference, since this forum “should not be a meeting of only friends.”
Previously, Ukraine refused to conduct direct negotiations with Russia. The country’s position was voiced by the deputy head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Igor Zhovkva, emphasizing that countries that are ready for dialogue have been invited to the Swiss summit.
