Pope, family lunch in the Bishopric: traditional menu and cake
Four appetizers, a first course, a second course and a birthday cake to celebrate cousin Carla: this is the menu – always typically Piedmontese – served in the Bishopric in Asti to Pope Francis, 27 of his relatives and the bishop Monsignor Marco Prastaro.
Russian salad, peppers with bagna cauda (sauce prepared with anchovies), veal with tuna sauce and raw meat pounded with a knife, the appetizers. Then the classic agnolotti del plin with roast sauce followed by roast with peas and carrots. To finish: hazelnut multilayer cake. Obviously, the choice of wines varies according to the dishes: Grignolino, Barbera, Chardonnay, bubbles and Moscato.
Table service was carried out by children with Down syndrome from the Albergo Etico in Asti. The lunch was prepared by the Argo cooperative and by PIAM which deals with the reintegration of women victims of trafficking. The birthday cake was prepared by the hotel management school of Agliano d’Asti in the Asti hills. The Pope then signed the recipe for the hazelnut cake.
