Assange awaiting extradition hearing. Absent from class “for health reasons”
It has begun at the High Court in London the final hearing on the defense's final appeal Julian Assange, Australian journalist and co-founder of WikiLeaks, against its disputed procedure extradition from Great Britain to the USA.
If the appeal is not accepted, the possibilities for legal action in the British justice system would be exhausted.
No sign of Assange in the courtroom
No sign of Assange's presence in court again today, according to what witnesses present in the courtroom reported, after his wife, Stella Assange, and the defense lawyers had informed the two appeal judges on Tuesday that the Australian journalist and activist, co-founder of WikiLeaks, “He does not feel good” because of consequences of 5 years of harsh detention in Belmarsh maximum security prison.
The flat rate was then confirmed by WikiLeaks on the X profile of the organization, where Assange is shown from prisoner in photo, aged well beyond his 52 years of age with long hair and a white beard, but with the same defiant look as always. And he is referred to once again as “a political prisoner“.
“Julian Assange – we read in the post, which presents today as a sort of “X day” – will not be able to attend even today's crucial hearing, due to the continuation of his precarious health conditions“.
Assange – the message continues – “risks a 175 year sentence if extradited to the USA, for having published” embarrassing documents stolen from American archives. Hence the two hashtags: “#DayX” and “#FreeAssange”.
Assange's wife: “Protest until he is free”
Several protesters are gathered in front of the courthouse awaiting the sentence. His wife, Stella Assange, told them the outcome is fraught with unknowns. Is that we need to protest, “showing that the world is watching, until Julian is free“.
