Cbic survey shows a 6% increase in the number of units sold in the 1st quarter of 2024 compared to the same months of the previous year
The average price of apartments in Brazil has risen 54.4% in the last 5 years, according to the survey “National Real Estate Indicators of the 1st Quarter of 2024”, released on Monday (May 27, 2024) by Cbic (Brazilian Chamber of Construction Industry). Here’s the complete of the report (PDF – 3 MB).
The survey states that the price index was 171.9 points in the 1st quarter of this year, compared to 111.35 in the same period in 2019. In the previous quarter, which ended in December and 2023, the index was 168.85 points, 1.8% below that recorded in the most recent survey.
The study was carried out in 220 cities, including the 27 capitals and the main metropolitan regions of the country. Only considers residential apartments.
Also according to Cbic, the 1st quarter of 2024 recorded a 6% increase in the number of residential units sold. There were 81,376, compared to 76,794 in the first 3 months of last year.
The 12-month accumulated totals 331,311 units sold, an increase of 3.9% compared to the 1st quarter of 2023, when 318,973 apartments were sold.
My Home, My Life helped
In the study report, Cbic explained that the increase in sales was driven by the results of the program My home, my life, from the federal government. 31,407 units of the program were sold in the 1st quarter of 2024, an increase of 21.3% compared to the same period in 2023, when 25,882 popular units were sold.
MCMV also had a 24.7% increase in the number of units launched (26,439) in the 1st quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year (21,207).
The launch of new properties in general (56,355) fell 9.6% in the 1st quarter of 2024 compared to the same months in 2023 (62,312). Cbic assessed that one of the causes for the drop in launches is the excessive delay in new licensing.
