The City Council will also enable three routes of active parks to cover the entire municipality
Ten active parks, distributed throughout the municipal area, will help the people of Cartagena maintain a healthy lifestyle through an electronic application to guide physical exercise.
The ten active parks are in Pozo Estrecho, Parque Torres, Port of Cartagena, Santa Ana, Los Belones, Cabo de Palos, La Manga, Puertos de Santa Bárbara, Isla Plana and the Ripoll Captains Park. The equipment in these spaces is innovative, inclusive and adapted for the use of all people, from adults to children, and with other capacities.
As explained by the mayoress, Noelia Arroyo, to this network of healthy parks “another four will be added through the call for European funds to which we have applied.” Regarding the electronic application with which they will facilitate physical activity, Arroyo assured that it will be available “shortly.”
The installation of the four new parks is planned in the Plaza Antonete Gálvez, next to the Palacio de Deportes; in Ronda de Ferrol in the Ensanche; in the Juan José Cano Park in the Cuatro Santos neighborhood; and the Juan Carlos I Park, in the Nueva Cartagena urbanization.
three different routes
The City Council will also enable three routes of active parks to cover the entire municipality. According to the initial project, the route is divided into east coast, west coast and downtown Cartagena. These routes will be included in the municipal application, and will contain information on how to access the parks and their connection via the urban bus and bike lanes.
Users will also be able to consult in the electronic application explanatory videos of the operation of the equipment and the type of physical exercises that can be carried out explained by athletes from Cartagena.
The councilor for Sustainable City, Cristina Mora, recalled that the City Council has raised this initiative after the declaration of Cartagena as a European City of Sport. “We want to increase the percentage of citizens who perform physical activity as a habit of life, in addition to measuring the impact that these routines have on personal well-being,” Mora said.
